Why this work matters to me

I want to honor the Black American creators whose music helped shape the world, including those whose names were left out of the story. Their work deserves to be heard as creativity and accomplishment, not only as a record of what was taken from them.

Libations for the Unknown is an original multimedia project featuring an eight-movement full orchestral composition with choir, rhythm section, choreography, and multimedia elements, accompanied by a documentary. The project explores Black American musical influence, recognition, ownership, and compensation. In development.

The performance and documentary

The planned live work brings orchestral writing, gospel voices, an R&B rhythm section, featured performers, and historical material into one performance. The documentary expands the conversation through history and interviews about cultural influence, authorship, and the future of Black music.

The project is being developed as a public-facing artistic and educational work. Production details and participants will be announced as arrangements are confirmed.

Presenting and collaboration

I welcome conversations with presenters, cultural institutions, educational organizations, and prospective production collaborators whose work connects with the project.
